Gridlock may dominate South Korean politics for near future - Advantage DPRK?

But leadership tangle in South Korea may directly bolster North Korea. The totalitarian state wants unification with the South without giving up its political system. But South Koreans are leery of a tie-up and their government may prefer to absorb the North rather than letting totalitarian rule persist. North Korea is not expected to attack outright but will step up fear about its nuclear weapons capabilities. Those fears would resonate as well to Seoul's political allies Japan and the United States. The North would need not fear a unified reprisal from the South, especially where Park needs legislative support. North Korea already carried out a fourth nuclear detonation in January, prompting the South to threaten punishment against further hostile actions.
