Gregor Robertson & Vision Vancouver Open Their Eyes in Second Term

(Canadian Press/J.Hayward)

No, what this would all seem to suggest is that, for the first time ever in its history, Vision Vancouver is going to have to be more collaborative with its political opponents. It doesn’t have balance of power on two of three boards, and on the third, city council, Vision is a little limited in its power. Any motion that requires a two-thirds majority – i.e., eight votes when Vision has only seven – will require some hand-shaking.
To his credit, Robertson has already recognized this changing landscape. He’s tipped his hat to some of the opposition parties’ ideas, and he has also given higher-profile assignments to Green Coun. Adriane Carr and Elizabeth Ball, the senior NPA councillor. He’s also ditched the troublesome and restrictive media policy that made City Hall more isolated.
